Flagler Beach’s new mayor Patricia "Patti" King has been sworn into office and a new City Commission chair and vice-chair have been chosen.

Former mayor Suzie Johnston presided over one final Community Redevelopment Agency meeting ahead of the swearing in ceremony on March 28, before leaving the dais a final time. King, executive director of the Flagler Beach Historical Museum, and commissioner Eric Cooley, who was reelected for his third term on the Flagler Beach City Commission, were sworn into office.

Flagler Beach has a tradition of selecting a new commission chair and vice chair following each election cycle. Commissioner Scott Spradley originally nominated commissioner James Sherman for the chair position, who turned down the nomination.

Commissioner Jane Mealy nominated Spradley for the seat and Sherman seconded her nomination.

Commissioner Rick Belhumeur also nominated himself as chair, seconded by Cooley. Spradley was elected as chair in a 3-2 vote and Sherman was unanimously approved as vice chair.
