The University Women of Flagler held its first meeting of the season on Saturday, Sept. 9, with Amelia Fulmer as guest speaker.

Fulmer, director of the Fitzgerald Performing Arts Center (formerly known as the Flagler Auditorium), began her talk by singing a few lines from the song “Don’t It Make My Brown Eyes Blue,” according to a news release from UWF. She has been the Performing Arts Center's director for four years and spent 32 years as a Flagler Schools music educator.

Fulmer gave a brief history of the 1991 founding of the auditorium and noted that in addition to hosting performances, the auditorium has served as a classroom for students who wish to go into the performing arts.

She also spoke about grants presented to local art teachers and about students who have been awarded scholarships from the auditorium and have gone on to careers in the performing arts.
